Take a stroll down Mosman’s unique art trail
Mosman’s shops and businesses will host the 2026 Mosman Art Walk for three weeks from 19 February to 10 March. The unique art trail and school fundraiser, which began in 2021, will showcase the diverse works of over 50 acclaimed Australian artists in the shop windows of Mosman village, from bookshops to jewellery stores, estate agents to optometrists, fashion boutiques to hair salons.
Ann King is chair of the Mosman High Art Committee. “We are so happy to be celebrating six years of this event, which has gone from strength to strength since we began,” Ann says. “Each year our participating retailers have been amazing, trusting us with their display windows, and the walk has been embraced whole-heartedly by the local community as an annual cultural highlight. We have also had invaluable financial support from local sponsors and Mosman Council.”
Mosman High school parent and photographer Gavin Libotte has entered a photograph First Wave in the walk. Gavin was recently awarded the Mayor of Waverley’s Prize for the best exhibition in this year’s Head On Photography Festival, for his exhibition Wanderland.
Some of the artists also featured recently in the ABC’s popular new show Portrait Artist of the Year, including Ben Brown, Evert Ploeg (also a school parent) and Anna-Carien Goosen. Another artist, Mohammed Khadra, who is also a distinguished surgeon, just received a Knights Medal from the World Lebanese Cultural Union.
Along with the return of Ken Done, Ann Cape and Evert Ploeg (also a Mosman High parent), new high- profile artists joining the walk include acclaimed Mosman artist Jumaadi and former Mosman High student Mirra Whale, who is currently exhibiting at Ngununggula (a regional art gallery in the Southern Highlands).
Anyone can stroll the streets and enjoy original artworks including paintings, prints, sculptures and ceramics and if any of the art speaks to you, you can bring it home – either buy it on the spot via QR code, or via the Mosman Art Walk website. For each sale, 30% is donated to support Mosman High School’s acclaimed art program, and 70% goes to the artist.
The walk was established by the Mosman High Art Committee of parents and volunteers in response to the COVID-19 restrictions. Their idea was to support local artists, businesses and Mosman High’s talented art students and dedicated teachers with a COVID- safe event. Since then, the walk has grown into a popular cultural event attracting visitors from all over Sydney and significantly boosting foot traffic for retailers.
Mosman High principal Susan Wyatt said: “It has been wonderful to see the collaboration of parents, artists, and Mosman businesses to present this special event year after year. It is an inspiration to our students and offers them invaluable support. It has also created strong connections between the school and our local community. We welcome all the people of Mosman, and around Sydney, to join us at our art exhibition with a difference.”
Funds raised by the walk have enriched the creative development of Mosman High’s art students. Keynote speakers have been invited to the school, specialist equipment has been purchased, and immersive art camps and tours supported, resulting in important new skills and inspiration for the students.
