Warm the soul with some festive spirit this winter
Feel the joy this winter at the Christmas in July Festival in The Rocks. The French-inspired food, wine and winter market is set to return from the 10 to 19 July, and there’s plenty to experience.
The streets of The Rocks will turn into a magical winter wonderland, with twinkling lights and live music to fill the chilly night air.
Snow Lane, a real Christmas tree alley will delight with snow flakes, perfect for a magic stroll.
The popular Firepit Cinema will return also, giving visitors the opportunity to rug up and watch Christmas classic films on the big screen by the warmth of a firepit.
European markets showcasing more than 20 food pop-ups and artisans offering everything from traditional eats to handcrafted goods will also be available. Visitors will find various goods – perfect for mid-year gift giving – from snow globes to perfumes and winter clothes.
Mulled wine will be available to buy, along with cosy hot chocolates, and for those with a sweet tooth there will be sugar-dusted waffles, cinnamon scrolls, French pastries and crepes on offer from pop-up stalls. Oversized German hotdogs and Austrian schnitzels will bring a savoury hit.
Vincent Hernandez is the creator and festival director and says that a ‘very exciting concept’ is coming to the festival this year – hanging cheese which is melted over heat. “The cheese is then scraped onto bread…and then it’s topped off with grilled bacon and honey and some chilli flakes,” Vincent says. “It’s something that is extremely popular in Christmas markets in Europe in winter.”
He adds that the white Christmas event is perfect for this time of year. “It’s winter – there’s not as many things to do, especially outdoors,” Vincent says. “So this is a great opportunity for people to put on a jumper and a nice coat and enjoy a magical night.”
