Mackellar MP Sophie Scamps has launched a campaign to save the Aussie Bush.
“So many of us choose to live on the Northern Beaches of Sydney because of the amazing natural environment,” Dr Scamps said.
“But Australia is a world leader when it comes to deforestation and animal extinctions. Vast swathes of our native forests are logged or cleared for farming (500,000 hectares every year).
“Not only are we paying to log our native Aussie Bush, but it is being used to produce low-value products like woodchips and tomato stakes,” Dr Scamps said.
“Saving our forests is also the simplest and cleverest way to combat climate change,” said Dr Scamps.
Dr Scamps is calling on Federal Environment Minister Tanya Plibersek to announce an end to native logging before hosting the Global Nature Positive Summit in Sydney from 8 to 10 October 2024.
Dr Scamps is asking the community to sign the ‘Save the Aussie Bush’ petition to ‘stop the needless destruction of our forests’.
