Marine Rescue Broken Bay (MRBB) is holding a free hands-on boat safety open day at Rowland Reserve, Bayview on Saturday 21 November from 9am to 4pm.

This is the first event of this kind that MRBB is running and they’re encouraging all local boat owners around Pittwater to attend the community event.

You will learn from marine specialists and experience live practical demonstrations on checking boat safety equipment; a boat will be on display to demonstrate how to assess it for seaworthiness and safety.

Boaters, you can learn how to use flares safely and how to troubleshoot your engine if you break down at sea.

Other sessions include how to use electronic navigation equipment, how to plot a position on a chart, and take compass bearings. Learn how to read wind and sea conditions, what to do in an emergency situation, how to prepare to be rescued, secure tow ropes and tie knots.
