Northern Beaches Council is joining the national Welcome Here Project, working to build environments that are visibly welcoming and inclusive of all LGBTQ+ communities.

All that join the initiative receive rainbow ‘Welcome Here’ stickers to display in their community.

On the Beaches, stickers are being displayed at key Council locations including Customer Service Centres, libraries, aquatic centres, Glen Street Theatre, and the Manly Art Gallery and Museum.

The placement of the stickers on prominent Council buildings is part of ongoing efforts to build connection, understanding and belonging for everyone in the Northern Beaches community.

In 2024, Council established a Northern Beaches LGBTQIA+ Working Group to identify actions towards making the Northern Beaches more safe, welcoming and inclusive.

Council’s involvement in the Welcome Here Project stems from engagement with the working group and with community-led organisation Fusion Pride Northern Beaches.

Mayor Sue Heins said the Northern Beaches is a place where everyone belongs.

“By partnering with ACON to join the national Welcome Here Project, we are sending a clear message that people of all sexualities and gender identities are welcome, respected and valued,” Mayor Heins said.

“This is an important project to build connection, understanding and belonging for everyone in the Northern Beaches community,” she said.
