An updated design for the Mona Vale Road West upgrade has been prepared by the NSW Government the government is seeking expressions of interest (EOI) from construction contractors to deliver the project. The contract award and construction commencement has been accelerated to occur next year.
The project involves widening Mona Vale Road from two lanes to four lanes between McCarrs Creek Road and Powderworks Road with the aim of improving traffic flow.
“After a 60-year rollercoaster ride of hopes and broken promises, Pittwater welcomes an accelerated timeline for the construction of Mona Vale Road West,” said Pittwater MP Jacqui Scruby.
“The Minister and Transport for NSW have listened to key stakeholder concerns and updated plans accordingly. It’s now time for our whole community to have their say.
“Today’s announcement that an EOl for the construction contract has been released is the breaking news our community has been waiting for to finally get this critical road done.”
Federal Mackellar MP Sophie Scamps said it was a major step forward.
“After decades of delays and neglect, this is welcome news for Northern Beaches residents who have waited far too long to see this critical project completed. It is encouraging to see the upgrade moving ahead and the timeline being brought forward,” said Dr Scamps.
“I’ve worked closely with Pittwater State MP Jacqui Scruby and both the Federal and NSW Governments to keep this project on track. Improving safety and reducing congestion on Mona Vale Road has consistently been one of the biggest priorities raised by our community.”
The project will also include a fauna overpass east of Kimbriki Road, a new signalised intersection and roundabout at the McCarrs Creek Road intersection, and a Wirreanda Road underpass, Harvey Road extension and Tumburra Street access changes.
A new Review of Environmental Factors (REF) is being prepared to assess the updated design, which will outline potential impacts of the projects and measures proposed to avoid, minimise and manage them. The REF is expected to be publicly displayed by the end of the year.
