To kick off NAIDOC Week, Singing Up Country will take place on 5 July at St Anthony in the Fields Church in Terrey Hills.

Run by proud Yaegl musician and Northern Beaches resident Michael Birk, the 12th iteration of the annual event is both a music festival and about community spirit.

Singing Up Country explores themes of belonging and caring for Country.

Supported by the Frenchs Forest Parish Social Justice Group and Mona Vale Music, the event has always showcased the talent of Sydney’s Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander music scene.

This year’s event commences at 3.30pm with a free story-telling and walk in the surrounding regenerating bush, followed by a smoking ceremony.

Then, the music begins with a range of artists including Black Turtles, Maanyung, Mark Munk Ross, Michael Birk and The Recognisers, Aunty Cindy Drummond and Kevin Hunt, Antwone, and Aleta Wassel.

Tickets are $50 for adults, $40 concession and free of charge for children under the age of 15.
