Local charities and community groups have received proceeds from this year’s Beach2Beach Family Fun Run and Festival.

Race organisers, the Rotary Club of Brookvale, handed out certificates and funds to those who assisted with the running of the event at a presentation night at Harbord Diggers this week.

More than 500 volunteers, sourced from local groups, helped  with the event in roles ranging from marshalling to distributing water.

Beneficiaries included local Surf Life Saving Clubs, Rural Fire Services , SES, Scouts and sports clubs.

As well, local charities benefitted, including Sanfilippo Foundation, Stewart House and One Eighty.

This year’s Beach2Beach, held on Sunday August 28, was warmly welcomed after two-years of cancellations and a further postponement due to flooding in March.

More than 4,000 entrants registered and many of these also raised funds for their charities.

This year’s winners were Lachlan Bryant (42: 34) and Caitlin Fowlds (52:19) in the 13km; Luca Otten (23:36) and Sybella Hawley (28:44) in the 6km; and Nathan Longster (12:38) and Fleur Daffy (14:53) in the 3km.

Rotary Club of Brookvale President Wayne Ryan thanked volunteers, entrants and supporters.

He acknowledged the dedicated efforts of Rotarians Ron Allars, Paul Cope, Phil Jackson and Rob van Geest whose dedication to the event spans many years.

“With major sponsors, the Harbord Diggers and United Resource Management (URM), the Rotary Club of Brookvale event raises major amounts of money for the charities,” he said.

“Just as importantly it is a great community event.”

The race has three distances, 13km from Dee Why Beach, 6km from Warriewood and 3km from Mona Vale with all ending at Newport Beach.

This ensures it caters for everyone from serious runners to students, families and those with strollers.

While the 2022 race is complete, preparations will soon begin for the 2023 event on Sunday August 27.

Fun Run and Walk

The Rotary Club of Manly’s 13th Fun Run and Walk was held on Sunday 4th of September, Fathers’ Day.

It included a 2km run, a 5km run, a 5km course for prams and wheelchairs and a 10km run along the beachfront and up to North Head.

Proceeds from the Manly Fun Run and Walk fund the club’s projects including scholarships, local charities and capital works.

Dates for next year’s Fun Run are yet to be listed.
