North Sydney Council is seeking community feedback on proposed locations for new public electric vehicle (EV) chargers across the Council area.
Council has received an application from EVX Australia to install 27 dual-port EV chargers on existing Ausgrid electricity poles in locations across the LGA. The proposal aims to improve access to EV charging for residents, workers and visitors. This will greatly assist those who do not have access to off-street parking and charging facilities.
Before making a final decision, Council would like to hear from the community about the proposed locations and any local considerations that should be taken into account. Each charger would serve two adjacent parking spaces, which would be reserved for electric vehicles while actively charging. Existing parking restrictions, including time limits and permit requirements would remain in place.
Using existing power poles helps minimise visual impacts, reduces the need for additional street furniture and limits disruption to the public domain.
The proposed infrastructure would be installed, operated, maintained and funded by EVX Australia. Council would not incur any installation or operating costs.
Feedback closes on 17 September. Visit the council’s Have Your Say page to see the full list of proposed locations.
