A new bridge is in place on the Northern Beaches, connecting Dee Why Oval to Palara Place. The bridge replaces a previous bridge which had reached the end of its operational life. The 20-metre-long replacement aims to enhance safety, accessibility and amenity for the community.
The upgraded width of 2.5 metres accommodates shared use, improving connectivity for walkers, runners and cyclists. The new bridge meets contemporary pedestrian and bicycle path standards.
Northern Beaches Mayor Sue Heins said this project supports the council’s commitment to enhancing active transport links and encouraging healthier, more sustainable ways to move around the local area.
“By replacing an ageing structure with a wider, purpose-built shared path bridge, we’ve made it safer and easier for people to walk and ride to Dee Why,” Mayor Heins said.
“It is a great example of how we can deliver essential infrastructure in a way that respects the character of the area while improving everyday connectivity for our community.”
The bridge has been renewed through the council’s Capital Works Program, aiming to sustainably manage, maintain and improve the Northern Beaches infrastructure.
