Iconic Aussie band brings 21st Anniversary Tour to the Beaches
Rogue Traders fans, get excited! The band is turning 21 and will bring the second leg of their national anniversary tour, The Anthems, to Dee Why RSL on 31 October.
The electro-rock group, known for their hits Voodoo Child, Watching You and In Love Again, have just released a new song, Dirty Dirty Disco, which features Dannii Minogue singing with Rogue Traders vocalist Natalie Bassingthwaighte for the first time.
Rogue Traders co-founder and keyboardist James Ash says the collaboration with Dannii, who has been friends with Natalie since their days as judges on reality talent show X-Factor, happened ‘very organically.’ James and Natalie presented Dannii with the song and asked if she’d like to put her own stamp on it.
Natalie says: “I reached out (to Dannii) and said, ‘We’ve got this track, we can only hear you on it. We think it’ll be amazing. What’s your vibe?’ And she just wrote back very quickly…‘Oh my God, it’s fab!’
“Next thing you know we’ve recorded all the parts and we’re in the studio doing a video clip,” she says.
James agrees that Dannii was a great fit. “It feels like the song got an extra level of awesomeness when Dannii came on board,” James says. “She ended up rewriting it as well, which gave it a whole new melody. It feels like a very natural final state for the song to be in.”
He adds that the release of the song, in combination with the second leg of the tour, was a ‘good opportunity to do both things at once.’
“The tour is a really important part of what we’re doing at the moment,” James says.
Natalie agrees, adding that this, the second half of the tour, will be special. “We’re finishing it off with a bang,” she says.
The band, which includes fellow members guitarist Tim Henwood and drummer Cameron McGlinchey, will also be playing songs from their new album, Midnight Alarms.
With the Rogue Traders rolling into Dee Why on the night of Halloween, Natalie says, “I’m very happy if everyone dresses up…I might do a little something too!”
“Our shows are very action-packed,” she adds. “We love it when the audience dances and sings along with us, it’s the biggest party of your life!”
James agrees: “We couldn’t be more excited. We’re 21 and ready to take on the world!”
