Local Little League baseball team Manly Maroons are the State Champions for their division following a dominant four-day performance where the Maroons outscored their opponents 57 to 2 across five games in Blacktown.

“We could not be prouder of these boys. They’ve worked hard for months to achieve this”, said Manly Warringah District Baseball Association President Brook Russell.

This ‘All Stars’ team is drawn from the most talented 10 and 11 year-old players on the Northern Beaches. They played against other representative teams from around the state, including large associations, such as Ryde, Hills and Cronulla.

Dr Sophie Scamps, Independent Federal member for Mackellar congratulated the team.

“This is an amazing achievement and I wish them well for the Nationals,” she said.

The Maroons are now set to face the best teams in the country at the National Little League Championships in the first week of June.

Because the team has to subsidise travel and accommodation of the teams coming from across the country, the cost for each family to send their child to the National Championship is steep – approximately $3,000.

The club is seeking sponsorships from local business, as well as raising money through a GoFundMe campaign to reduce the costs for families at a time when cost of living pressure is hitting family budgets: https://www.gofundme.com/help-support-our-state-champions.
