Willoughby City Council has postponed exhibitions in its Incinerator Art Space until further notice due to issues faced following this month’s heavy rains.

A spokesperson for Willoughby City Council said council is currently investigating the extent of the damage caused by the rain.

“Unfortunately, these rains affected the heritage sandstone Walter Burley-Griffin-designed Incinerator building, as well as the Incinerator Art Space located inside. Council is currently investigating to determine the extent of any repair works required, and as a result has taken the difficult decision to postpone all exhibitions scheduled in the Incinerator Art Space until further notice.

“We are working with all affected artists to discuss alternative dates or locations and will communicate these to the public as soon as possible. We apologise for any inconvenience this may cause.”

On April 5th, there was a heavy rainfall in the Willoughby Local Government Area. According to BOM, the area received 189mm of rain in a 24-hour period, while our own rain gauge in Northbridge recorded 212mm. This was the heaviest rainfall in four years. Chatswood, located in the same area, received the most rainfall in Sydney on that day.
