Dee Why’s Jacaranda trees are in full bloom and it’s a warm morning when I step into V’s, dead-set on getting my favourite rose and pistachio cheesecake (the best I’ve had in NSW). Since I first discovered the shop it’s become a frequent haunt as it caters to those with dietary restrictions. All of the delicious food on offer is entirely gluten free.

Run by former fine dining chef Vivian Wang, V’s Dessert is a hidden gem on the Beaches, with loyal visitors flocking for its selection of sweet and savoury treats. Vivian’s experience in balancing flavours, textures and presentation was gained during her days in a hatted restaurant. At V’s, she’s successfully paired these skills with high quality ingredients and experimentation to develop new recipes that are ‘naturally gluten free, not an alternative version of other foods.’

The menu certainly won’t leave you wanting. V’s loaded focaccia and pulled pork rolls are perfect for a breakfast or lunch visit, packed full of flavour on top of bread that balances the line of fluffiness and crumbliness that comes with gluten free baking.

But of course, the highlight is the desserts, from their bestselling perfectly moist basque cheesecakes to crème brûlée that gets torched right as you order it. You don’t have to just take my word for it – at the 2025 Sydney Royal Fine Food Show, V’s chocolate cake won silver, and the carrot cake won bronze.

“I’m equally as excited as the customers when I create something delicious that everyone’s able to enjoy,” Vivian says. “Seeing a customer light up when they realise they can enjoy something delicious makes the hard work worth it. The friendships and sense of community that come with it are the cherries on top.”

The shop has a relaxed vibe. The barista staff who work alongside Vivian are always ready to say hello, and fellow customers will shoot you a smile – especially if you have a furry friend alongside you, with plenty of outdoor seating and puppuccinos available.

“The support and love from the community around us has made me feel it’s all worth it when I get home at the end of the day,” Vivian says.

V’s has holiday pre-orders open for the Christmas/New Years Eve period.
