Mosman Rowers is the perfect place for a meal
It’s a stunning blue-sky day when we visit the Mosman Rowers, a site steeped in history which has served the community since 1933. It is nestled in the tranquil Mosman Bay, a quiet little pocket surrounded by green hills marked with homes.
Our destination is the café downstairs, which impresses the minute we walk in. With a view of the boats bobbing on the water, and an option to sit out on a balcony, it is a picture-perfect spot for a leisurely lunch.
My friend and I start with roasted king prawns for entrée and are instantly impressed with their generous size and meaty white flesh. Butterflied and brushed with house XO sauce, they are delicious and plentiful enough to share.
The slow-cooked game farm duck maryland main is generous too, a succulent mix of perfectly seared duck with accompanying potato puree, seasonal greens, balsamic-glaze onions and candied citrus. Equally delicious is the seafood spaghetti, a mix of pasta tossed with the freshest of mussels, pipis and prawns, with a flavoursome dill and tomato sago tying the dish together.
Seafood is a common theme at the cafe, with popular dishes including the tuna sashimi poke bowl, and the catch of the day, served with sauteed greens, rustic smashed potato, lemon zest and creamy aioli.
The cafe has been running in its current form since March 2019, says David Grosvenor, general manager of Mosman Rowers, with its menu available in both the café downstairs and the bar upstairs. The café’s offerings were refreshed with the introduction of executive chef Mark Ramos a few months ago. David explains that with 27 years’ experience at restaurants including Salty’s Bondi and Nick’s Bar and Grill, Mark has ‘introduced a fresher, seafood inspired menu that reflects the club’s waterfront setting.’
“With lighter flavours, quality produce and approachable dishes, the new menu has received excellent feedback from members and guests,” David says.
As we start on dessert, delightful crispy bite-sized pastries filled with warm apple and cinnamon, we have to agree. Mosman Rowers really is the place to be!
