Willoughby City Council celebrated the four community members that were honoured at the Council’s 2023 Citizen of the Year awards during the citizenship ceremony held on Australia Day.

“I congratulate our four award winners for their tremendous contribution to the Willoughby community, which has included helping our youth, people with disabilities, the elderly, our environment and local residents from multi-cultural backgrounds,” Willoughby Mayor Tanya Taylor said.

Maria Chan received the Citizen of the Year Award as a long-time Willoughby resident and her outstanding community involvement; and Lucy Periera was named Young Citizen of the year for her work at the Chatswood Youth Centre and participation in the Willoughby Youth Action Group.

Meredith Foley was awarded Environmental Citizen or the Year for her commitment to environmental conservation and her involvement with community events; and Mary Anne Veliscek received the Cultural and Community Development Award for initiating the building of raised garden beds at the garden to accommodate users with physical disabilities to get involved with gardening.
