Lifeline Northern Beaches, Mosman to Kirribilli is hosting an Out of the Shadows Community Walk tomorrow on World Suicide Prevention Day. The purpose of the walk is to remember those lost to suicide, support people experiencing emotional distress, and raise funds for Lifeline’s crisis support and suicide prevention services in the local area.
Lifeline holds Out of the Shadows events annually on Suicide Prevention Day, with people all across Australia walking nine kilometres in recognition of the nine Australians who die by suicide each day.
Sarah Grattan, Lifeline Northern Beaches, Mosman to Kirribilli CEO, said Out of the Shadows walks are quiet, powerful moments of connection that can make it easier to talk about suicide and seek help.
“Every statistic represents a real person, and a circle of people learning to live with that loss. When we walk side by side and speak openly about suicide, we show people they are not alone and that support is available,” she said.
“Every dollar raised through the Lifeline Northern Beaches, Mosman to Kirribilli Out of the Shadows Walk helps your local Lifeline continue providing crisis support and suicide prevention services across our community.”
The Northern Beaches walk is a return trip, starting at Manly Lagoon Reserve in Queenscliff and extending to Shelly Beach for a total of nine kilometres. Everyone is welcome and those interested should meet at Manly Lagoon Reserve for a 6:45am start. Register your interest via the Lifeline Northern Beaches, Mosam to Kirribilli website.
