Mosman Council is installing CCTV at Balmoral to address ongoing tree vandalism.
The decision came after a replacement 200-litre Port Jackson fig tree planted in Balmoral in May was vandalised in July.
Council agreed at its meeting on 1 September to install CCTV between Raglan Street and the Tram Shed with an estimated budget of $125,000.
As well as being a deterrent, the cameras aims to help the identification and potential prosecution of those responsible for tree vandalism.
While council is organising the CCTV, the banner installed at Balmoral will remain in place while a replacement tree reaches a sufficient height and canopy spread.
It was agreed that a new larger banner of three metres by 1.5 metres would be attached to two poles adjacent to the kerb and in line with existing parking signs at the site of the tree vandalism, and remain there until the new tree reaches a minimum height and width of five metres.
