NSW Police have launched Operation Warratah 2, targeting Sydney’s worst public transport offenders involved in both physical and sexual assault.

This operation’s focus will be on offenders who have committed crimes on transport networks such as trains, buses, ferries and the new Sydney Metro. This will include Northern Beaches services such as the B-line, regular bus services and the Manly Ferry.

In a statement, Assistant Commissioner Stephen Hegarty APM, Commander of Police Transport and Public Safety Command, has stated he believes some offenders are still not getting the message.

He highlighted that “Over 200 alleged offenders were arrested during the first Operation Waratah earlier this year, marking a significant drop in violent acts on our network” However, he stated his belief that this had still not got the message through to some offenders.

This operation, which commenced in November 2024, will look into several historical incidents, including one in Frenchs Forest. This incident, which took place in August this year, saw a 15-year-old sexually assaulted in a shopping centre before being followed between bus stops and buses in the French Forest area. Images of the man wanted in relation to this incident have been released.

Police are appealing to anyone who anyone who may be able to assist in this operation.
