Pride Month has begun with events being held across North Sydney to celebrate the resilience, achievements and history of the LGBTQIA+ community.
North Sydney Council held a community Pride Picnic on Sunday which featured live music along with a tribute to North Sydney’s queer history. North Sydney Mayor Zoë Baker encouraged the community to join in the planned activities. “The Pride Picnic was a joyful start to a month of events that celebrate diversity, identity and community spirit. We invite everyone to join us throughout June as we continue to honour the stories and contributions of our LGBTQIA+ neighbours, family and friends,” Mayor Baker said.
The council has a number of events planned for June listed on their website, including a Family Pride Party. The council chambers and Stanton Library will shine in rainbow colours throughout the month as a symbol of support and solidarity with the LGBTQIA+ community.
This year’s Pride Month theme is ‘Love, Respect, Empower.’
