Northern Beaches Council is making significant strides in reducing carbon emissions by introducing new electric vehicles (EV) to its fleet. Thanks to co-funding from a State Government grant, the council is deploying 11 electric vehicles, taking its existing fleet from five to 16 fully electric cars and 10 hybrid vehicles.
The adoption of electric vehicles is a crucial part of the council’s plan to achieve net zero emissions by 2045, with a target of reducing vehicle emissions by 30 per cent by 2038.
The Northern Beaches is witnessing rapid growth in electric vehicle uptake, prompting the council to collaborate with industry partners to ensure sufficient local charging infrastructure. Approximately 26 charging locations are currently available, with plans for 15 more. Many off-street charging locations feature multiple chargers to accommodate simultaneous charging.
Additionally, the council is involved in the Intellihub EV streetside charging project, which aims to install up to seven EV chargers on streetside power poles.
