The new pedestrian and cycle bridge over Manly Lagoon at Queenscliff has opened, aimed at resolving a long-standing chokepoint in the regional active transport link between Warringah Mall and Manly.
Featuring a generous 4-metre-wide design, the bridge ensures ample space to comfortably accommodates people of all ages and abilities, while providing safer journeys for people walking and bike riding.
Northern Beaches Mayor Sue Heins said it was exciting to see this sustainable transport investment finalised.
“This is a major milestone for a project that the community has strongly supported from the very beginning,” Mayor Heins said.
“The bridge will provide a safer, more accessible route for people walking and bike riding between Aitken Avenue and Hinkler Park, to our wider active transport network.
“Together, the bridge and new crossing will offer a much safer alternative to the narrow footpath on the existing road bridge on Pittwater Road, improving connectivity for locals heading to shops, schools, playgrounds and recreational facilities,” she said.
Feedback was received from 190 community members resulting in the final design. For more information visit council’s Have Your Say page.
