After years of work supporting young people’s mental health in the community since 2005, Ku-ring-gai Youth Development Service (KYDS) Youth Counselling celebrates its 20th birthday this year.
To commemorate this milestone, KYDS is hosting a Birthday Gala Dinner at Norths Cammeray on 20 September, with highlights such as a silent auction and raffles, live music, and a three course dinner. All money raised at the Gala will go back to KYDS to support their mental health services.
KYDS’ roots trace back to 2000, when a group of dedicated members of the Rotary Club of Lindfield identified an urgent need for accessible youth mental health support in their community.
Led by a dedicated team, the group spent years advocating, fundraising and securing charitable status for what would become Ku-ring-gai Youth Development Service Inc., an organisation providing free, accessible and confidential counselling for children and young people in the local area.
With support from Ku-ring-gai Council KYDS secured its first location and headquarters beneath Lindfield Library, with the first Management Committee appointed by the end of January 2005. KYDS welcomed their first client at the end of March that same year.
