Council has said that there are insufficient funds available to deliver the remaining sections of the Coast Walk project, having made adjustments based on community feedback.
It has been investigating improvements to various sections of the coastal walkway and cycleway between Newport and Avalon since 2018. It has now had to prioritise works based on funding availability and safety.
The council now plans to make improvements to the shared path from Newport Beach to The Serpentine; to the pedestrian connection from Bilgola carpark to Allen Avenue on the Bilgola Foreshore Link; and to complete a pedestrian safety upgrade at the top of Allen Avenue stairs to improve pedestrian connection on The Serpentine.
Council is currently evaluating tenders for these priority sections. The successful tender, along with a report detailing results and engagement activities since 2018, will be presented at a council meeting in late 2024.
Following this presentation, the council will engage with the community to gather feedback on the detailed design while also investigating additional funding opportunities to complete the wider program in the future.
