Kylea Tink, Independent Federal Member for North Sydney, joined fellow community independents Zali Steggall MP, Allegra Spender MP, and their communities in celebrating diversity and inclusion at the 2024 Mardi Gras Parade on Saturday 2 March.
The ‘Independents for Inclusion’ float has participated in Mardi Gras for the past three years. This year’s float was organised by North Sydney volunteer Edmond Yan, with the theme: ‘Powered by People’.
The parliamentarians were joined by about 15 constituents from North Sydney, Warringah and Wentworth.
Reflecting their float’s theme, participants performed dance moves choreographed by North Sydney volunteer Helen Benham, and carried LED backpacks that displayed photographs submitted by friends, neighbours and others from the three electorates who joined the float virtually to show their support for LGBTQI+ pride and inclusion.
“It is so meaningful to have our Federal Representatives walk with us in unity with our community,” said North Sydney volunteer Edmond Yan.
“We are so proud to have representation that values, celebrates and respects our local LGBTQIA+ community.”
“It is a joy and a privilege to be able to march alongside the people of North Sydney and our friends from Warringah and Wentworth for Mardi Gras,” said Ms Tink.
