Moving from preschool or child care to ‘big school’ is a significant milestone for children and families, which is why the Northern Beaches Christian School (NBCS) in Terrey Hills has developed a school readiness program.
It aims to prepare students, their families and the educators for a confident, connected transition.
NBCS’s new Pre-K program is offered across three or five days. Children can become familiar with the school environment, routines, teachers and wider community before starting Kindy.
Close connections between Pre-K and Kindy educators support continuity of learning and relationships.
Through play, exploration and guided learning, children develop language, early literacy, emotional regulation, independence and confidence.
This draws on the Early Years Learning Framework and NSW Early Stage 1 Curriculum.
Weekly Bush Kindy further builds problem-solving and resilience, while experiences with specialist teachers and Kindy to Year 2 activities help children to feel at home in the school community.
School readiness is part of everyday Pre-K life at NBCS – helping children confidently step into Kindy.
