Ian Dance, 84 years young, from Waverton, is taking on an epic 34-kilometre hike on Sunday, 13 October, to raise funds for The Fred Hollows Foundation, an international development organisation whose aim is to ensure everyone has access to high-quality, affordable eye health care.
Ian signed up for the Sydney Harbour Hike in memory of his late sister Margaret who died in 1968, and was a patient and student of Fred Hollows almost 60 years ago.
Margaret’s inspiring yet tragic journey of vision loss and her connection with Fred Hollows during her studies in the 1960s left a lasting impact on Ian.
Ian is no stranger to visual challenges himself, but that hasn’t stopped him from training rigorously for this trek. With his son and daughter-in-law by his side on the day, Ian is determined to make every step count as he nears his fundraising goal of $6,000, with $5,967 already raised!
The Sydney Harbour Hike is an annual event organised by the foundation where participants enjoy breathtaking views along the 34-kilometre trek.
