More than 7000 drivers caught in Operation RAID
Over 7000 drivers have been held to account statewide as part of a road safety operation focused on impaired driving. Northern Beaches Police detected at least two alleged mid-range drink drivers during traffic enforcement activities during Operation RAID, which finished up on 6 September.
At about 7am on 4 September, Northern Beaches Police Area Command officers were conducting stationary random breath testing on the eastbound lanes of Wakehurst Parkway, Narrabeen, when a 28-year-old man was stopped for a roadside breath test.
The driver returned a positive result and was subjected to a breath analysis, allegedly returning a mid-range PCA reading of 0.111. He was issued with a Future Court Attendance Notice for drive with mid-range PCA and is due to appear before Manly Local Court on 23 September. His driver’s licence was immediately suspended by police.
A short time later, officers stopped a 38-year-old man who also returned a positive roadside breath test. Following a breath analysis, he allegedly recorded a mid-range PCA reading of 0.104.
The man was also issued with a Future Court Attendance Notice for drive with mid-range PCA and is scheduled to appear before Manly Local Court on 23 September. His driver’s licence was immediately suspended.
Police are reminding motorists that alcohol significantly impairs driving ability and increases the risk of serious crashes on our roads.
Assistant Commissioner David Driver, Traffic and Highway Patrol Commander, said that, statewide, officers stopped thousands of vehicles across the weekend.
“Concerningly, we found 212 drivers to be driving well beyond the legal blood alcohol limit and 774 who tested positive to roadside drug tests,” Assistant Commissioner Driver said.
“The message is simple: People need to understand their legal and moral obligation when they get behind the wheel and not put others at risk.
“We’re not just apprehending drivers impacted by drugs, alcohol, or fatigue during this operation, our officers will continue to be out there every day and night working to prevent deaths and serious injury on NSW roads.”
Vehicle theft on the rise
Police are reminding Northern Beaches residents to take simple precautions to protect their vehicles following an increase in alleged motor vehicle thefts over the past week.
Officers have responded to several incidents and are urging the community to remain vigilant, ensuring vehicles are properly secured when left unattended.
Residents are encouraged to:
- Always lock vehicles, even when parked at home.
- Never leave keys inside vehicles or in easily accessible locations.
- Park in well-lit areas where possible.
- Report any suspicious activity or persons in the area to police.
