A grand orchestral celebration of Broadway’s Golden Age is coming to Belrose as Glen Street Theatre plays host to An Evening with Rodgers & Hammerstein. The Sydney Musical & Opera Society production will run from 20 to 22 May.
Bringing together the timeless music of Richard Rodgers and Oscar Hammerstein II, this flagship production honours the romance, warmth and orchestral splendour that defined an era of musical theatre.
Featuring seven principal vocalists, a full ensemble and choir, and a sweeping 23-piece orchestra, the production goes beyond a traditional concert presentation. Enhanced by immersive projections, elegant period-inspired costuming and refined choreography, the evening balances intimacy with spectacular scale.
Presented in the year marking the 75th anniversary of The King and I, audiences will journey through the unforgettable worlds of Carousel, South Pacific, The King and I, Oklahoma! and The Sound of Music.
Beloved classics including Some Enchanted Evening, If I Loved You, You’ll Never Walk Alone, Hello, Young Lovers, People Will Say We’re in Love, Oh, What a Beautiful Mornin’ and Climb Ev’ry Mountain will be performed with full orchestral richness.
The production is directed by Kate Maree Hoolihan, whose credits include the Julie Andrews-led production of My Fair Lady for Opera Australia, and features acclaimed performer April Marie Naho, who appeared as Bloody Mary in the professional production of South Pacific.
