In support of Dolphin Research Australia, the first NSW Dolphin Census will be held on Sunday 31 May at 11.30 am between Narrabeen Rock Pool and Warriewood Beach.

This ambitious citizen science project will bring together volunteers along the NSW coast to help collect vital data on dolphin populations and better inform future conservation planning for coastal cetaceans.

Chris Yates, environmental scientist and Australian Conservation Foundation Northern Beaches leader, will guide a small group observation walk between Narrabeen Rock Pool and Warriewood Beach — an area where dolphins are frequently sighted. The morning will finish off with a coffee and a chance to share observations and experiences.

As part of the census, volunteers will observe dolphins from headlands, beaches, rivers, kayaks, boats, and other coastal locations. The data collected will provide an important snapshot of dolphin populations across NSW.

All participants are required to register and complete a short training workshop (online and self-paced eLearning options are available). Anyone can get involved — no previous experience required. For more information, please visit the Dolphin Census page here.
