Northern Beaches council has recommended nine new apprenticeships to be rolled out in the next two financial years in support of the expansion of entry level pathways in the community.

Following the call for more apprenticeship employment opportunities, it is understood recruitment has been difficult to attract trainees to work for council in the current employment market.

Since the formation of the notice of motion – apprenticeships strategy and targets, Northern Beaches council has demonstrated its commitment to provide a range of entry level training pathways to employment.

Council say the traineeship pathway has been the most effective pathway in delivering outcomes for the participants and for the organisation to date.

Council has identified that it can satisfy the scope of works and learning requirements of the nine apprenticeships in the transport and asset division in the period 2022 to 2023 through to 2027 to 2028.

Funding will be reallocated from the salaries budget to engage four apprentices this financial year, and additional funding will need to be allocated to engage the additional five apprentices in the 2023 to 2024 financial year.
