Kate Ceberano joins a star-studded line- up of acts set to rock North Head at this year’s festival
Manly’s unique outdoor concert series, Night at The Barracks, is set to return this September with a host of musicians ready to perform live and thrill fans. The event, which will take place at North Head Sanctuary in Manly, will run across four weekends until October.
Boasting a line-up of musicians including Beaches locals Lime Cordiale, Amy Shark, Missy Higgins and Grinspoon, Night at The Barracks offers great music and a magical atmosphere under the stars.
Beloved Australian artist Kate Ceberano will be taking to The Barracks stage with her Australian Made show, which she has been touring around the country – and she’s looking forward to returning to the iconic venue.
“It’s where history meets contemporary entertainment. What other places are like that?” Kate says. “You’re under this ceiling of skies. I can’t think of a more beautiful venue in all of Sydney.”
The Melbourne-based singer last performed at The Barracks in 2023 with The Metropolitan Orchestra, which was a huge production. This year she’s performing as an ‘almighty trio,’ just Kate along with two musicians, bringing to life Australian Made, a show which celebrates her 40 years on the road. It’s a nod to the original Australian Made tour she performed in as an emerging artist, back in 1986 with INXS, Jimmy Barnes and The Divinyls.
Kate will perform at The Barracks on 14 September, blending highlights from her own platinum catalogue with some of Australia’s most iconic anthems. From her own band, I’m Talking, Kate will sing hits Pash, Bedroom Eyes and Brave. Then, in what the artist calls a ‘loving tribute to my friends,’ Kate will perform numbers by iconic Australian musicians who have helped shape her career, including Silverchair, Jimmy Barnes, Models and Paul Kelly.
Kate’s special guests performing at The Barracks include her own daughter Gypsy Lee, and Mahalia Barnes, daughter of rock legend Jimmy.
And how have audiences responded to Australian Made so far? “I think they find it a bit of therapy,” Kate says. “Audiences have audibly been engaged in the shows.”
She adds that for many, it’s a trip down memory lane, including Kate herself, who recalls the nerves as she performed with famous artists on the original Australian Made tour when she was 20.
“I remember standing in the wings watching Chrissy Amphlett, Jimmy and all my heroes (with) this throb in my throat wondering, ‘How will I ever sing? My heart’s beating so hard.’ And still (today) when the music starts and we play that in the set, I get the same feeling – it’s just this beautiful, youthful terror!”
