The stage adaptation of Colleen McCullough’s classic novel Tim will premiere in July at Glen Street Theatre.

Ms McCullough is one of Australia’s most loved authors – known best for The Thorn Birds, Tim and The Masters of Rome series. Her provocative and powerful novel Tim was published in 1974, to a flurry of controversy, and was quickly adapted for screen with Mel Gibson cast in the title role. This renowned story about love, privacy and embracing difference has been brought into the modern day – adapted for the stage by acclaimed playwright, Tim McGarry (Boy Swallows Universe) – and is set to premiere right here on the Northern Beaches on 27 July.

Central to the story is an unorthodox love that develops between Mary, a career driven, mid-fifties business executive and Tim, a handsome 25-year- old labourer with a mild intellectual disability. What begins as a chance meeting between them, soon develops into a life-changing relationship for both. Tim’s protective family grapple with a deep suspicion of sexual coercion, a disability system that has failed them, and the devastating loss of Tim’s mother.

Accomplished actor Jeanette Cronin (Letters to Lindy, Janet King, Rake, The Tourist) is set to play Mary, alongside breakout star, Ben Goss as Tim. Ben himself lives with a disability, and brings a lived experience to his interpretation of this complex role. Set to take Australia by storm, we are privileged to have this show launching a major national tour from Belrose’s Glen Street Theatre. Don’t miss your chance to be the among the first to see this incredible new theatrical masterpiece right here on the Northern Beaches.

There will be six performances of TIM at Glen St from 27 to 30 July. Purchase tickets at glenstreet.com.au.
