Musson was started in Crows Nest by husband and wife team Robert and Kerry Musson. Fifty years later, the Musson brand is thriving, and the redesigned Chatswood Chase Flagship boutique has just opened. The store, which opened in 1983 and is one of few original tenants still at the Chase, was closed for two years during the centre-wide renovation. Co-CEO Catherine Musson tells us why the Musson name has stood the test of time.
What does it mean to you to still have a store in Chatswood? Why is that community important to you?
To still be here isn’t just about retail longevity. It’s about a 50-year conversation with the North Shore. I’ve seen clients come in their twenties picking out an engagement ring, only to return decades later to choose a graduation gift for their daughter.
This community is our heartbeat. We are a family-owned jeweller that has grown up alongside our clients. That level of intimacy is rare in luxury today. Our new flagship is a tribute to that loyalty, a space that feels like a private home where we can continue to celebrate the milestones of the families who made us who we are.
Why do you think the Musson name has stayed the test of time?
Sustainability in the luxury world comes down to two things, uncompromising craftmanship and authentic connection. We have remained focused on exceptional design, uncompromising craftsmanship and a deeply personal client experience, and that consistency is what builds trust over time. As a family-owned business founded in 1972, with jewellery still designed and handcrafted in Sydney, there is a sense of authenticity in the brand that clients can feel.
At the same time, we have continued to evolve. Musson has a long history with rare and important stones, particularly Argyle Pink Diamonds, and our design work has been recognised at the highest level, including Supreme Awards through Diamond Guild Australia. That balance of heritage and forward vision is what has kept the brand relevant. We are not creating jewellery for a season. We create pieces that hold deep emotional meaning, designed to be treasured for a lifetime and passed from one generation to the next.

What is the hallmark of the Musson brand?
The hallmark of Musson is the way we forge deeper connections through exceptional craftsmanship. Every piece is created to hold meaning, connecting people to moments, memories and one another with beauty, precision and integrity. Musson jewellery is instantly recognisable for its sculptural qualities, architectural design and impeccable technical precision. Most of all, a Musson piece will celebrate the beauty of the natural gem or lustrous metal it features, giving ultimate joy to the wearer.

We invite clients into the creative process, offering transparency and a level of personalisation that feels increasingly rare.

Beyond the piece itself, what also defines Musson is the bespoke experience we offer. We invite clients into the creative process, offering transparency and a level of personalisation that feels increasingly rare. It is the most rewarding thing for us, to take the time with each Musson client, listen to their desires for the piece or what moment it might be celebrating, and to ensure that we honour those moments in the finished jewellery.
What do you love about your job?
What I love most is that this work is both deeply creative and personal. We work with extraordinary natural materials, each with its own history, and transform them into something that will become part of another person’s story. There is something very special about creating an object of real beauty that may be worn, loved and handed down for generations.
I also love the human side of it. Jewellery is often connected to life’s most important moments, and it is a privilege to help people express love, celebration and legacy in a tangible form. Seeing a client’s reaction when they first see a bespoke piece created just for them never loses its magic. That is the real reward: knowing what we make will carry meaning long after it leaves our hands.
