Catch Disaronno’s roaming cocktail bar
Italian liqueur Disaronno is bringing a touch of Italian flair and la dolce vita to the Northern Beaches as its roaming cocktail bar experience, Disaronno Bar on Wheels, tours a variety of venues until May. The experience is a nod to Italy’s aperitivo culture.
Disaronno is launching the Disaronno Bar on Wheels at two-hatted restaurant Pilu, and I’m lucky enough to score an invite to an evening of Italian charm and hospitality – and some delicious Disaronno cocktails overlooking Freshwater Beach.
My plus one and I are greeted with a Disaronno Amaretto Sour – a mix of Disaronno Amaretto, lemon juice and egg whites served over ice and crowned with a frothy finish to give a velvety texture. It’s the perfect balance of sweet almond and bright citrus. The legend of Disaronno dates to the 1500s during the Italian Renaissance when an inn keeper presented an artist with a special gift – a flask of fragrant and delicate amber liquid. Disaronno Amaretto can be enjoyed on the rocks or in a range of delicious cocktails like those accompanying the refined three-course Sardinian menu created by acclaimed chef Giovanni Pilu, showcasing authentic flavours and premium local ingredients. In typical Italian style, everyone is seated at one single long table, and the happy sounds of people enjoying good food and drinks drifts around the candle lit restaurant.
We enjoy a Disaronno Spritz (Disaronno Amaretto, prosecco, grapefruit soda) which is light and refreshing, and a Between Two Coasts (Disaronno Amaretto infused with mint and fennel) which is smooth. It is paired perfectly with Giovanni’s special tiramisu, of which he assembles in a demonstration.
The Disaronno Bar on Wheels will travel to celebrated venues around Manly including Cibaria, In Situ, The Cumberland, and Felons Brewing Co, each place with its own dolce vita vibes, where you can enjoy delicious cocktails with casual Italian bites. If you miss the Disaronno bar, the limited time cocktails are available until 10 May.
Cibaria offers front-row seats to the beach, where guests can enjoy antipasti and Italian favourites from the team led by Alessandro Pavoni. In Situ provides an easy-going, sit-down setting to sip and snack while watching the world pass by, while The Cumberland, tucked beneath a deli, delivers a hidden speakeasy vibe ideal for a late-afternoon or evening cocktail. Felons Brewing Co invites guests to enjoy their Amaretto Sour in the sunshine or at golden hour by the water. It’s time to slow down, sip and celebrate the joy of Italian culture.
