Spoil mum this Mother’s Day on Sunday 10 May with our top five treats
High tea
Indulge mum with a quaint high tea complete with a freshly brewed pot, fancy sandwiches and delightful desserts. Grab the fancy plates and try making mum your own special version at home. Think sandwiches with the crusts removed, cupcakes, mini quiches and scones. For those looking to head out, top North Shore picks for high tea include the Bib and Bub Tearoom at Nutcote in Neutral Bay, Burnt Orange in Mosman, and the Gunners Barracks in Georges Heights. Be sure to book before you go to avoid disappointment.
Pickle ball fun
Hit the blue courts and get ready for some fun by taking mum out for a game of pickleball! This sport has grown in popularity over the last couple of years, and is a combination of badminton, tennis and ping pong. It’s played with a paddle and a plastic ball, which can be hired at most courts. Played on a court half the size of that used for tennis, pickleball is fast and has simple rules which can be looked up online. Voyager Tennis in Willoughby has courts for hire, or search for pickleball court hire in your area.
Theatre treat
Take mum to see a play and enjoy a fantastic day out. The Ensemble Theatre in Kirribilli will host the play 84 Charing Cross Road, starring Georgie Parker and Erik Thomson. A heartwarming true story of friendship, this play celebrates the enduring bonds forged through letters, books and a shared love of words. See the Ensemble website to book your tickets.
Take a walk
Get active and take a stroll with mum to see the beautiful sights of the Sydney Harbour foreshore. There’s a great walk from Milsons Point to Lavendar Bay which forms part of North Sydney Council’s Milson Point History Walk. Start at Milsons Point station, walk down Alfred Street parallel to the Harbour Bridge, past Luna Park and along Art Barton Park. Continue walking to the historic Lavendar Bay baths and ferry wharf sites. From there, take a wander through Wendy Whiteley’s Secret Garden.
Time out
Pamper mum and give her some precious time-out with a massage, facial, manicure or other treatment. Surprise her with a gift voucher, or better still, book her an appointment! Ensure mum does not do any house chores on the day – offer to cook dinner, hang out a load of washing or fold some clothes. Every little bit counts!
