Get the whole family running at this community event in Mosman

The Mini-Mos Community Fun Run and Fair is back on Sunday 15 June and now in its 43rd year. Run by Mosman Public School, the annual event features 2km, 5km and 10km road races around the streets of Mosman along with the Mini-Mos Fair on the grounds of the school.

An impressive $145,000 was raised by the Mini-Mos event last year, with the funds invested back into the school. This year it will be put towards a big shade for one of the playgrounds.

Volunteer organiser and school parent Marc Dodd says Mini- Mos is a unique event. “It’s a great chance to run through one of the most beautiful parts of our city,” says Marc. “It’s always a great Sunday morning and the family can take part in the shorter 2km race, or have a bit of fun at the fair at the school grounds afterwards.”

Children can run the 2km alone or with an accompanying adult. Strollers are welcome, and it begins at 9am and 9.20am for children with accompanying adults and strollers.

“The 2km race is for children from Kindy to Year 6,” says Marc. “The streets are closed so it’s a safe environment and it’s a great way to introduce your kid to running.”

The 5km race starts at 8.15am for the open division (all ages in age group categories) and the child/parent team division.

The 10km race kicks off at 7am and is open to everyone over 10 years.

The prizes for the 10km race are $1,500 for first, $750 for second and $500 for third place. There are extra cash prizes for the record-breaking times! The current record time of 29:58 is held by 2019 winner, Olympian Liam Adams.

For elite athletes, Mini-Mos offers a preferred start for the first 25 males and females prior to the main 10km start.

There’s an extra cash prize for the first woman and man who beat the record for finishing the ‘tricky’ 10km race.

“It’s quite hilly,” says Marc. “It’s not an easy one, but we do get good runners turning up. The favourite is local Mosman runner Ed Goddard, who takes part in all the races.”

Elite runner Ed is an ambassador of Mini-Mos, along with triathlete Owain Mathews.

The fun fair at the school grounds promises activities for children, including a kindy animal farm, entertainment and fair rides. Market stalls include pre-loved books and clothing and a cake stall. Keep the family happy with special unlimited rides wristbands at $38 each pre-sale and $55 each on the day.

Mini-Mos is sponsored by local businesses and there will be a choice of delicious foods on offer to refuel after the races.

“It’s a good chance to shine a spotlight on our local businesses and our local sponsors,” says Marc. “Without them we wouldn’t be able to take part every year. There is also an online auction with prizes donated by local businesses. It’s another way that we raise funds.”

Sustainability is important to Mini-Mos and last year they moved to wooden medals rather than metal. Entrants can refill their reusable water bottles from the portable water units provided by Mosman Council – water will be distributed along the course in recycled cups. Bring your own keep cup for a coffee cart discount.

Whether you’re an amateur runner or a seasoned athlete, everyone wins at Mini-Mos, with all participants receiving a special commemorative medal.
