The Northern Beaches Council is inviting the community to help shape a new four-year plan about making life accessible and inclusive for people with disability on the Beaches.

Nationally, more than 21 percent of Australians live with disability and the numbers are growing. On the Northern Beaches, the ageing population means disability will touch more lives in the years ahead.

Council has developed a draft Disability Inclusion Action Plan to help the Northern Beaches be more inclusive and accessible for people with disability.

The draft four-year plan aims to create safer more liveable communities, more meaningful employment opportunities, better Council systems and processes and positive attitudes towards people with disability.

Mayor Sue Heins said council developed the draft plan collaboratively with community members with a lived experience of disability, their carers, families and local services.

“When we engaged with people with disability, they described inclusion in very practical everyday terms such as being able to travel around safely, access the information they need and be treated with respect,” Mayor Heins said.

“Now we’re seeking the wider community’s input on how we should focus our work over the next four years.

“By wworking together with people with disability and their carers, families and the services that support them, we can continue to make the Northern Beaches a place where everyone feels they belong,” she said.

The draft Disability Inclusion Action Plan is on public exhibition until Sunday 5 July 2026.
