The Gidget Foundation, which supports parents experiencing perinatal anxiety and depression, will be holding a Gidget Giving Day on Wednesday 10 June, where for 24 hours only, every donation will be doubled. This will help the foundation to support twice as many families with vital mental health care.
Each year, more parents turn to Gidget Foundation Australia for help. With over 100,000 parents experiencing perinatal anxiety and depression annually in Australia, one in five mothers and one in ten fathers are impacted, underscoring the need for continued perinatal mental health support across the country.
This year marks 25 years since Gidget Foundation Australia was founded in response to a devastating loss that sparked a national movement to improve awareness and care for perinatal mental health. In that time, the organisation has grown from a small group of family and friends into a leading national provider of specialist support.
Over the past three years, the number of parents they support annually has grown by 50%. In the past year alone, Gidget Foundation Australia has provided 16% more psychological therapy sessions, supported 20% more families in need, and has seen a 40% increase in factsheets downloaded.
Gidget Foundation Australia has a total of 44 Gidget House physical locations across the country. In addition, it’s Start Talking telehealth service ensures all parents – especially those in regional and remote locations – can receive specialist, timely care.
