Northern Beaches council has confirmed the development plans for a new Hard Rock outlet at Manly has been withdrawn.

While property development group Initium Management Pty Ltd had planned to construct the internationally known restaurant and live music franchise on The Corso, it is understood the development application did not gain approval.

It is believed if the DA was approved, the building, which was originally constructed as a Woolworths grocery store in 1935, would have been demolished and transformed into a premises that could accommodate up to 534 customers.

Local tourism organisation Experience Manly had welcomed the news of the new Hard Rock venue, though it is understood members of the Northern Beaches community were opposed to the plan.

It is believed this DA was the second lodged after the original application was withdrawn on 9 March this year.
