Folly’s Bar & Bistro’s Saturday bottomless lunch is a must for those looking for a delicious two-course modern Australian meal and two hours of free-flowing beer and wine.
The appeal of ditching chores in favour of a relaxing lunch means that I am pretty chilled sipping on a refreshing peach and hibiscus spritz.
Folly’s is busy but intimate too as the tables are nicely spaced in the restaurant area to the rear.
It’s a versatile, comfortable and inviting venue with warm wooden floors, exposed brickwork, soft, flattering lighting, and chill background music. The front bar area is dotted with people escaping the late summer heat with a cool drink while a gentle breeze flows through bi-fold windows.
Restauranteurs and long-time friends Lachy Sturrock and Sam Smith launched Folly’s, named after nearby Folly Point, in November 2023.
“I’ve always wanted a neighbourhood bistro that was comfortable, approachable and price sensitive,” says Lachy.
Folly’s serves a great selection of local beers, seasonal cocktails, and an impressive choice of wines, including Italian and French.
The bottomless lunch menu features three options for a shared starter plate, individual mains and shared sides, with so many delicious options to choose from.
The lamb skewers are succulent and full of flavour, but for me, it’s the tuna crudo starter that steals the show. The pink bite-size cubes of tuna, compressed watermelon, and blood orange create a vibrant plate that looks as good as it tastes. A hint of chilli is a nice contrast to the cool dish, and the crunch of pistachio is a clever textural addition.
My sirloin steak with seeded mustard jus is perfectly medium rare and delicately sliced – easy for my husband to steal a bite. His barramundi is beautifully cooked, the soubise sauce creamy but delicate, and the samphire fronds taste like the ocean – deliciously salty. Add a side salad, charred broccolini with miso emulsion and fries and a few glasses of wine and I am ready for a siesta.
I will definitely go back another Saturday to try the third main on offer, orecchiette with basil and pistachio pesto, sundried tomato and stracciatella.
