Walk your way to support Dementia Australia with this family event on 2 March

Pull on your sneakers and get warmed up – the nationwide Memory Walk & Jog is coming to Mona Vale. Designed to raise money for the charity Dementia Australia, the event will be held on the Beaches on 2 March for the first time.

There are more than 421,000 people living with dementia, according to the charity, a statistic set to rise alongside the ageing population. This event raises funds which go towards the charity’s work in information, education and support services such as individual counselling and group therapy sessions.

While the Memory Walk & Jog has been running for over 15 years in towns and cities across Australia, this marks the first time it will be run on the Beaches.

Tanya Buchanan, chief executive officer of Dementia Australia also encourages any members of the community to volunteer at the event or show up on the day and support those participating. “We’d love to see as many people as possible get involved; there’s something for everyone,” Tanya says.

For those looking to participate, registering with the Memory Walk & Jog website is essential.

Participants then set their fundraising goals and can compete with others in the lead-up to see who raises the most funds. For those who cannot participate or come to the event, donating to a participant is encouraged.

Tanya is encouraging anyone participating to spread the word. “If you can, encourage your loved ones to get involved too and sign up as a team.

“It will be a great day out!”
