Curl Curl café, Curly’s on the Corner has adopted a new composting method as a trial aimed at reducing food waste.
In NSW, it is understood more than a third of waste sent to landfill each year is food, and after passionate sustainability locals Linda Wong and Karen Booth noticed the café’s sizable food waste they both saw an opportunity.
Having been loyal customers for more than 20 years, they presented the idea to Curly’s on the Corner café owner Paul, suggesting the idea of ‘coolseats’ – a compost garden that doubles as a handy seat for patrons.
Coolseats allows for increased aeration, which speeds up the composting process.
With Paul jumping onboard with the idea and gaining support from Northern Beaches council, the pair have been delighted by the composting trial success and have already noticed the garden is flourishing.
