Northern Beaches council has announced it will work alongside 16 surf life saving clubs in the community by offering the surety of 20-year leases.
It is understood the new agreement, backdated to 1 July 2022, is designed to offer surf clubs on the Northern Beaches new 20-year leases that allow for better planning and maintenance, in recognition of each clubs’ invaluable service to the community.
SLSCs expected to benefit from council’s support include Bilgola, Bungan, Mona Vale, Newport, North Palm Beach, North Narrabeen, Warriewood and Whale Beach.
Council Mayor Michael Regan said the extension of tenure has been supported in the community and allows for longer term planning and fundraising.
“Providing these clubs with security in relation to tenure over the coming 20 years allows them to plan for their ongoing, long-term operations and make capital investment in their surf life saving facilities,” Mayor Regan said.
