The Balmoral Swim celebrated its 33rd anniversary with more than 1,000 swimmers and a successful fundraising effort that raised over $100,000 for the Children’s Cancer Institute.
On 24 March, the shores of Balmoral shimmered with excitement as swimmers, families, and community members gathered for the 2024 Balmoral Swim. The event united swimmers of all ages and abilities in a display of sportsmanship and camaraderie.
Nine schools participated in the Schools Relay Challenge, including Ascham, Queenwood, Wenona, Pymble Ladies College, MonteSant’ Angeleo Mercy, Riverview, and Mosman Preparatory School.
Nineteen teams competed in the Balmoral Team Challenge Relay, finalising with The Dexus Dolphins as winners and The Kingspan Whales being awarded with the Challenge Cup for the team who raised the most money: $14,805.
In the Junior 200ms swim, 7-year-old Balmoral Nippers Claudia Boylan-Fear and Elsie Lisney swam for the first time in honour of their friend Jacob Weston, who recently completed chemotherapy after a battle with leukaemia. The girls swam and raised almost $4000.
Over 450 swimmers participated in the main event. The 1-kilometre swim also saw the inclusion of people with disabilities. Richard Tombs, who swam his first ocean swim last year in the 200 m relay, returned to swim his first 1km and was awarded the Charity Cup for the most money raised by an individual.
