Independent Member for Mackellar Dr Sophie Scamps has announced the Terrey Hills Rural Fire Service will receive back up satellite services under the Australian Government’s Strengthening Telecommunications Against Natural Disasters (STAND) program.
The announcement comes as Terrey Hills, and surrounding communities that back onto Ku-ring-gai Chase National Park, like Duffys Forest and Ingleside, appear to be in high-risk areas of bushfires, which poses potential threats coming into summer.
Dr Sophie Scamps said the installation of backup NBN Sky Muster satellite services will ensure the Terry Hills RFS have access to backup communication technology to communicate with emergency services, should a bushfire take out communication infrastructure.
“The brave volunteers at the Terrey Hills Rural Fire Service are at the front line of Mackellar’s defence against bushfire and they deserve the best,” said Dr Scamps.
“This includes equipping them with the technology to help them perform their vital role in the safest and most effective way possible.”
