Northern Beaches Council was proud to announce the naming of Panucci Field at John Fisher Park, North Curl Curl at an official naming ceremony on 22 July.
Formerly known as Old Reub Hudson Oval, Panucci Field recognises Francesco Panucci who established a market garden in the 1940s on the land on which the field is located, where he produced vegetables, flowers, herbs, fruits and raised small livestock.
Council acquired the land in the 1970s which then became part of the Reub Hudson Sporting Complex at John Fisher Park.
Northern Beaches Mayor Sue Heins said the naming of the reserve was well deserved.
“Renaming the oval to Panucci Field is a fitting tribute to Francesco Panucci’s significant contributions to our community. Francesco is fondly remembered for his philanthropy and dedication to the community including sponsoring other Italian families to experience the life in Australia,” said mayor Heins.
“His legacy of hard work, generosity, and community spirit continues to inspire us all. We are proud to honour his memory in this way.”
