Scams have been popping up on the Northern Beaches, with a computer scam and two ticket scams reported last week.

A 76-year-old man in Avalon was allegedly scammed out of approximately $6,000 in a computer scam.

The man allegedly told police that a pop-up appeared on his computer, causing it to freeze. A phone number was then displayed to call for assistance. After calling the number, he spent several hours speaking with scammers and provided them with remote access to his computer. As a result, money was transferred from his account.

Police are reminding the public to never provide remote access to their devices and to only click on trusted links from known sources.

In other scam news, two reports of ticket scams have been made.

In one incident, a 15-year-old wanted to purchase concert tickets via Facebook. After transferring the money, the seller allegedly sent no further messages and their account was deleted.

In a separate incident, a 43-year-old purchased tickets to a sporting event through Facebook. Following payment, the tickets were never provided, and the purchaser was blocked by the seller.

Police urge the public to be wary of purchasing tickets from unknown sellers on social media and, where possible, to use authorised ticketing providers or reputable resale platforms.

If you believe you have been targeted by a scam, police advise contacting your bank immediately, report the matter to Scamwatch and report the incident to police.
