Emergency services were called to Harkeith Street, Mona Vale, after a fire broke out on a verandah at about 10.30pm on 3 November, after an item was reportedly thrown at the house.
Allegedly, the item, a petrol-filled bottle lighted on fire (Molotov cocktail), was tossed at a house, spreading petrol and flames through the front porch of the property, hurting a 45-year-old woman who was sitting there.
The woman was able to extinguish the blaze with a garden hose before alerting emergency services.
Officers attached to Northern Beaches Police Area Command arrived a short time later and established a crime scene.
The woman was treated at the scene by NSW Ambulance paramedics for what police have been told are superficial burns to her arms before she was taken to Royal North Shore Hospital for further treatment.
She’s reported to be in a stable condition.
Anyone with information into the incident is urged to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
