Taronga Zoo opened its new habitat, Nura Diya Australia, a brand-new immersive habitat home to iconic animals such as wallabies, Dingoes, Koalas and more.
Nura Diya allows visitors from around the world to get up close and personal with some of Australia’s wildlife, and it will be home to 270 individual animals from 23 different species across four landscapes designed to showcase each animal’s natural habitat.
This experience aims to deepen visitors’ understanding of the relationship between First Nations Cultures and Country. The name “Nura Diya” means “This Country” in the Sydney First Language and was gifted to Taronga through consultation with First Nations People, including Taronga’s Aboriginal Advisory Group, Cammeraigal and First Nations staff.
Visitors can also enjoy eye-catching sculptures and artworks and grab a bite to eat at the heart of Nura Diya, where they will be able to relax surrounded by nature in the daramu gunya – Tree Shelter, a new café surrounded by the sights and sounds of native wildlife.
